Z-Wizard Add-in Application for Civil 3D

Z-Wizard is a Civil 3D add-in application that facilitates the creation of objects with elevation values. It contains two panels of tools: the Text Tools panel, and the Surface Tools panel. The Text Tools panel contains commands related to AutoCAD text objects which have numeric Z values as contents. The Surface Tools panel contains commands related to the Civil 3D surfaces.
1. Text Tools
1.1. Text to TIN Surface

This command creates a TIN surface from text objects. The Z values of the created surface points match the numeric content values of the selected text objects.
After creating the surface, the selected text objects remain unchanged, and the created surface is independent of the selected text objects.
Following are the steps to use this command:
- From the ribbon, choose Z-Wizard tab ➪ Text Tools panel ➪ Text to TIN Surface (you can also type the command TextToTinSurface in the command bar).
- At the Select objects: prompt, select the text objects you want to use their contents as Z values.
(Note: Any objects other than the text objects will be automatically filtered out from the selection.) - At the Enter surface name: prompt, type the name you want to assign to the created surface.
1.2. Text to COGO Point

This command creates COGO points at the locations of text objects. The Z values of the created points match the numeric content values of their corresponding text objects.
After creating the points, the selected text objects remain unchanged, and the created points are independent of the selected text objects.
Following are the steps to use this command:
- From the ribbon, choose Z-Wizard tab ➪ Text Tools panel ➪ Text to COGO Point (you can also type the command TextToCOGOPoint in the command bar).
- At the Select objects: prompt, select the text objects you want to use their contents as Z values.
(Note: Any objects other than the text objects will be automatically filtered out from the selection.) - At the Enter description: prompt, type the description you want to assign to the created point(s).
1.3. Text to ACAD Point

This command creates AutoCAD point objects at the locations of text objects. The Z values of the created points match the numeric content values of their corresponding text objects.
After creating the points, the selected text objects remain unchanged, and the created points are independent of the selected text objects.
Following are the steps to use this command:
- From the ribbon, choose Z-Wizard tab ➪ Text Tools panel ➪ Text to ACAD Point (you can also type the command TextToACADPoint in the command bar).
- At the Select objects: prompt, select the text objects you want to use their contents as Z values.
(Note: Any objects other than the text objects will be automatically filtered out from the selection.)
2. Surface Tools
2.1. COGO Points from TIN Surface

This command creates COGO points from the points of a TIN surface.
After creating the COGO points, the selected surface remains unchanged, and the created COGO points are independent of the selected surface.
Following are the steps to use this command:
- From the ribbon, choose Z-Wizard tab ➪ Surface Tools panel ➪ COGO Points from TIN Surface (you can also type the command COGOPointsFromTinSurface in the command bar).
- At the Enter description: prompt, type the description you want to assign to the created points.
2.2. ACAD Points from TIN Surface

This command creates AutoCAD point objects from the points of a TIN surface.
After creating the point objects, the selected surface remains unchanged, and the created point objects are independent of the selected surface.
Following are the steps to use this command:
